Spotify And Friends

Endless Summer is now on Spotify as well as the majority of other online music services, such as Google Music, Deezer, Tidal and a bunch of other shit I never heard of. I still recommend Bandcamp if you want to buy the album.

I am currently working on a video for the song Out Alone On A Warm Summer Night. I’m not making any promises but I have most of it planned out. I wanted to kind of keep this song as the hidden gem of the album but a big part of this project was to roll with any idea that came up. I plan to at least record some footage will take it from there.

Sinister Majesties Update Among Others

I’ve slimmed down the Sinister Majesties album from 15 tracks to 12 tracks. It’s a lot more concise, and to the point now. I think this will be the final listing, but I will be recording vocals for the next couple of weeks once my new equipment arrives. It can very likely change during that process. I will welcome any changes that come, but I hope to keep it down to that standard 12 number. I liked the idea of 15 tracks originally, due to the themes of the songs, the album as a whole and the number itself. It’s been overdone though, and it works better as a smaller set of tracks. This was originally the goal to coincide with what I was originally thinking of calling the album, “Satanic Majesties”. This felt over the top though, and a bit too close to the Stones album. The change in album name I thought better represented what I was going for, and it didn’t sound as derivative, which was never my intention. I’ll like to do one more song on Soundcloud for it, likely when I get a final vocal cut on either the title track of “Minotaur of the Mangroves”.

Go buy Endless Summer. Any funding is going right back into this project. The eatdrugz666 promo is still good. You can also get it on cdbaby but I don’t have an option for a promo code there so it will be the full $8. The album will be on Spotify and other streaming services soon. Just waiting on confirmation on that.

The third album for this project is currently under the name Alone In The After. Going to be a much more ambient sounding album, and some stuff closer to drone. I had to deal with a recent, fairly severe injury though and this has influenced the writing of a number of songs. It steered away from that ambient direction I was initially in, and while I am headed back that way I want to include those songs that had a bit more of a wounded animal feel to them as well. OIC and Bedridden currently on Soundcloud are a direct result of that and I have a couple more that may be included as well. I’m back on the original rails now though so they could server as an interlude. Just keeping things fluid.

Album Previews

Endless Summer

As mentioned, the album is finished. Completely finished. I expect to have it on Bandcamp as fully streamable, and available for purchase next week if not the week after. I may yet add one more song to it but I feel happy with it as it is in its current state. Half of the album with the bonus Pipeline is of course available on Soundcloud for streaming and download now.

Sinister Majesties

This will be my second album. It will have a much looser theme than Endless does, with the main focus on nihilism, self-destruction, and self-sabotage. A lot of it is done, but there is still plenty to do before it is complete. It is coming together faster than Endless Summer by far, and will have more tracks. I am aiming for 13 in total, but I may settle for 12. Typical stuff that needs to be done. A few tracks just need vocals, some just need that final polish. A couple are still in the writing phase. Again, like Endless Summer you can stream as well as download a sample of it from Soundcloud. I will be adding more songs to this playlist, at least two, as they become ready. I don’t expect to have the full album out until October.

Untitled Third Album

I do have one more album planned after Sinister Majesties. It will be more of a ambient album, much more chill than the other two, which dive off into some fairly industrial soundscapes. Some songs are written and recorded but still need polish, others are just a mess of a folder. Ideas, and riffs, and loops, and scraps. Ideally I’d like to have it finished and out in December. I will likely take a break from full albums after that or maybe even releasing music for a while. I’ve always been more of a “bedroom player”, so being public with stuff has felt really weird and I got other projects I’d like to focus on.

Pipeline (Move All Night)

I don’t just program most of the parts in my songs. The most programming I do is the drums, which is nothing but plotting samples and then drenching them in either overdrive, flanger, delay or all of the above. Pipeline I did do more programming than usual. Mostly on the slide parts as it was just the only way I was happy with them. They were fun to do live while doing the other parts, and that’s how the song came to be. I had been working day and night on a couple of particular songs and not really getting anywhere. I wanted to do something kind of fun and a bit more upbeat, change it up. And it was fun. I stood at my desk doing it over and over and over, but never really got frustrated, and it paid off.

All the songs for Endless Summer are pretty much done as far as recording go. 10 tracks if I don’t add any more but I think I got everything set, I’m just finishing mixing it. I might switch to Ableton to master some of it, as it just isn’t working out in Sonar for a couple. Two other I may do a different vocal take but that’s it. I may post another song tomorrow, but that will be it for a while. I have another set of songs in the works as well, and anything else going to Soundcloud will be from those, or other one offs I do in the mean time. I’m shooting for end of July, early August to have the full album on Bandcamp

Honolulu Blue

This is the first song I have completed vocals on. I got possibly two more to finish and the album will be just about finished. I did have a cover song I wanted to include but I’m not really that into it anymore. I may post it to Soundcloud some other time still. We are looking at 9 tracks for the album now assuming I don’t replace that track. I got a couple others I could use but they don’t really stick to the overall theme. I may always come up with something in the mean time of course.

All We Ever Wanted Was Everything (Bauhaus Cover)

A No Vocals cover of the Bauhaus song “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything”. This was done with my usual setup of Caustic, my Keystation Mini(as pictured), with some finishing in Sonar X3.

I started out doing a cover of one of my favorite Bauhaus songs, “In The Night”. As I went about it, I felt more and more like it just wasn’t translating well. A lot of was really due to the numerous tempo changes, a lot of bendy guitar parts, and not really a lot of room to play with the drums as much. Something “All We Ever Wanted” did afford, although I did keep it to a minimum. I did finish “In The Night”, but as I sat down to listen back to it a few times, I figured “The Sky’s Gone Out” had a ton of great songs on it. So I loaded it up and gave it a listened. Any excuse to listen to this album is fine by me.

Doing some kind of long form, extended mix of “Three Shadows” had crossed my mind, but I am still working on that album, and just wanted a quick diversion I could toss online by the end of the weekend. The much shorter “All We Ever Wanted” seemed more ideal for that. Additionally, I liked the idea of doing a mostly acoustic song. It had some really great bass parts, and they translated well with the keyboard without much trouble at all.

These two songs are also the first I completed from start to finish on the new computer setup. Last weekend I had been working on some songs from Twin Peaks, and while recording parts of it the computer had crashed on multiple attempts. That PC is particularly more impressive, but it was formerly a cryptocoin miner, and time has taken quite the toll on it. I plan to get it back in stable running order, but I decided it was time to get a more dedicated music solution together.

I had an older Phenom II X6 Black Edition CPU just sitting in a box, along with some other older parts, I just needed a case and power supply unit and I could at least be up and running. My younger brother had just finish building his new dream PC, and just so happened to have an old computer not in use. So I commandeered this, and plugged in the aforementioned CPU, and my Hyper X ram (he had some mix matched stuff in there). I hit the power button to reveal… nothing. It wasn’t even turning on. I swapped back in his old parts and still nothing. It had at least been turning on before he had replaced it. I still had another older motherboard, and simply hooked that in, with my CPU and other parts. Turned it on and it booted no problem. Cool.

I plugged in the rest, put the case back together, and turned it on again. I was immediately met with a loud CRACK and a small white blue flash on top of the board. Even now I am not sure what caused it. I thought I smelled some burnt cat hair, maybe some landed on the wrong spot? The CPU in the other board had some really old thermal paste that was also flaking everywhere. Maybe a small bit fell on the board when I put the case back together? I don’t know. What I did know that board was now dead too.

So I didn’t have a lot of options left at this point. I went ahead and ordered a new MSI motherboard, and a couple other small things. It arrived the end of last week, and it all went together smoothly. Additional USB 3.1 slots, new 3tb drive to go along with the SSD, plus my older k800 Logitech keyboard works again with this computer for some reason. It was all for the best I suppose. I’d do a full detailed breakdown of what I am using, but I am looking to slowly swap some things out. Maybe save that for another time.

Endless Summer Tracks

Here are two tracks from my planned Endless Summer album.

I don’t know if I want to try to monetize it or not. Either way I hope to make more tracks available in the very near future.

The biggest hurtle I have encountered with these songs are the vocals. I originally planned to have none other than a couple spoken word bits, mostly to play around with a vocoder emulator, because it’s fun as fuck. One song I wanted to do full vocals on was the cover of My Own Summer. That is pretty much done, with my own vocals processed through a vocoder. I may redo them all with some other kind of voice synth software, but I’m pretty happy with it right now as is.

At least two songs have come to the point where I strongly feel like they belong. A third is planned lyrically, but I yet to hear the song in my head. I got stuff for the others written that feels right. I’m sure I will need a few more passes to tighten things up but they are about where I want them. There is just one big problem with this, I can’t sing for shit.

Maybe in my younger years. But yeah, I drink and smoke. Smoked? Smoke. While I like playing with the vocoder emulators, I don’t want to do it to hide, I want to do it because it is what is right for whatever I am working on. It is very much of a “I’ll know it when I hear it” process. I often of the belief these songs all already exist somewhere. I just have to fully discover them, like an uncharted island, out there full of brown skinned girls with cold fruity drinks waiting for me.
